Call of Duty?

Are you still considered a good samaritan when you step in to help someone in distress? Where have the majority of the good samaritans gone? In this video a 15 year old girl is beaten while 3 security guards watch and take no action. While the security guards are not armed, I have to wonder what are they securing if not the area in which they are assigned to patrol, let alone the area within 5 feet of where they were standing.

Why are people too afraid to get involved when it comes to helping someone? There are instances when I have seen someone on the side of the road with a flat tire or car problems and having my children in the car, I made the choice not to stop. There also was a time when I sat on the side of the road for several hours and no one stopped to help me. Have the criminal ways of the world challenged the basic instinct of helping one another?

In this particular story a 15 year old girl is getting the crap beat and kicked out of her while the hired help, 3 security guards, simply stand there and watch. Why on earth do we have security guards if they are trained to only observe? Wouldn't they then just be heartless people who are in it only for the money or the authority? I realize that most security guards do not have to complete any type of formal training. Perhaps they have not been schooled enough to act in a defensive manner or to defuse a potential deadly situation. But...if their title of "security" does not give way to the fact that most security guards are there to secure or maintain the security of an area, then why are they even there?

Average citizens choose whether to get involved when they see a potentially dangerous or hazardous situation occuring. But the hired help has a duty to get involved. I wonder what will be the recourse of the employer to the employees? Will this result in another lawsuit that could have been avoided if people did their jobs correctly? What would have happened if the 15 year old girl would have died? It will make me think twice next time I see someone needing help and also to pray to God that the person needing help is not me!
